Happy New Year

Well, things are getting back into a groove here in Austin and I am hoping for fun things on the websie in 2010.  I am thinking about a broader download page so more toons will be available.  I also think it would be cool to offer a "sketch" page of songs I haven't really recorded yet.  Here is my thought process;

I LOVE when a new song shows up.
I am completely JAZZED to get it down to tape/bits in a rough mix.
I think it is a BLAST to add improvised harmonies and instrumentation to see how a song is gonna sound.

Easy so far.  Then I get serious.

I HATE commiting to a base track.
It's SOOOO TEDIOUS to try to get layered parts perfect
I am NEVER HAPPY with the finished product (though sometimes years later I think it sounds cool).

SOOO..

I am thinking about taking a "Diana Camera" approach (Google it).  I have so many songs that I haven't recorded, I am just going to commit them all to tape in a series of 1st takes.  That way I get to have all the fun without any of the downside.

Fun.

I like fun.

I will make them available for free download as they progress.

So, once again... Happy New Year!!

Well, I'm finally back. Wait. Got to go

Well... I haven't posted for quite a while.  It's been busy.  It's been strange.  If I had posted, I would have talked in length about;

Moving (still in Austin but now in "a very, very, very fine house" to quote Graham Nash. It is "over the hills and far away" to quote Led Zeppelin

Moving trees in a compact car

What it is like to look at houses (it was fun for, say, the first 60 times. Kinda dragged after that)

How cool is it to have more room for The Blue Moose World Headquarters Recording Mecca (new toons to follow soon...now with exciting electric guitars!  Bigger! Louder! New! Improved!)

Whoever reached my site searching for "Chuck Baker" (yes, I can tell... it's the 21st century...privacy is sooo 20th century)... let me scream out YES! CHUCK BAKER RULES!  GREAT PERSON, GUITARIST, WRITER AND FIDDLER.  and cool hair.  I would kill to hear some of his original piano/vox songs again.  And once again to alert Google to send Chuck Baker fans my way... CHUCK BAKER, CHUCK BAKER (now it says his name more than mine on this website). Wonder if he still has that paisley telecaster or that Les Paul with the baby humbuckers?

Back to normal?

I think the site is kinda back to normal maybe ish.  I just found this... reminded me of how the music files were playing for a few days.... ha

Going on ?? what is

You may notice some technical problems with the site today.  They are changing servers/updating so, of course, everything is wonkers.  Random. Beautiful. Messed. Up.

The Calamari Wrestler

Well, I was adding "The Wrestler" to my Netflix queue when I came across this;

What can I say?

This is the small print for the Google search engine to find. If a human wanders across this, YOU ARE A WINNER*.  Email me and I will think of some sort of prize I can send you.  Joe Montgomery is a singer songwriter in Austin, Texas. He has been a part of SXSW, writes good songs, has been compared to John Prine, Todd Snider, Townes Van Zandt and Steve Earle. He thinks that is very cool. He has never been compared to Bob Dylan or John Lennon**. Understandable, but still a bummer. He plays folk, Americana (whatever that is), pop and, sometimes, almost rock. He is thinking about going to Kerrville this year and playing every campfire he can find. He has never met Bob Schneider or Jimmie Vaughn. He has met Johnny Cash and George Bush (the Daddy, not the punkass chump of a son... of course, I hated the daddy when he was king, too). Let's see... I should mention MP3, WAV, blog, guitar and other cool words that someone might search for like sex, breasts, porn, paris hilton, the beatles and God.  Oh, and wet t-shirts... that should get me a few hits right there.

* Please note that you are not a winner.  Sorry. Elliot, the drummer with the band The Resigned recently found this (
www.theresigned.com ).  I do not know how or why. I suspect that I am being stalked. Yes, I know he lives in England but do you have a better explanation? And, by the way, what are you doing here? Are you a friend of Elliots? What has he told you about me? Does he still have the pictures?

** Elliot was nice enough to compare me to both Dylan and Lennon. Pretty cool but I don't think he was sincere... so, the sentence stands as written.
